A sumptuous party that goes on for days. Endless dinners and merengue danced all night under a coal-black sky. Smoke meets flower and then blends with spice. This is CAFÉ TABAC. Before the new scent of Aedes de Venustas was created, the name had already been decided: CAFÉ TABAC, the iconic 90s bar in New York's East Village. Upstairs in this venue Kate Moss met Johnny Depp for the first time, Madonna answered the phone, Leonardo di Caprio picked up top models and the founders of Aedes de VenustasRobert Gerstner and Karl Bradl spent many nights there. A place where stars shed their glamorous aura, and people lived in a pre-cell phone era now so far away that they long for it again. "It is the profound mood of a cult place that creates its legend," says the perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour"The deep blue smoke of cigarettes, cigars, weed... whatever. We're always searching for multiple paradises: laughter, desire, pleasure, over and over again." This spirit was also present when Duchaufour and Gerstner explored the Dominican Republic last year for another olfactory project. "It was an explosion of vibrant, chic people from Mexico, France, Rio, New York; different cultures, conversations, ideas, and opinions," says Gerstner. "We traveled together from a tropical forest to the coast, but it wasn't until we found ourselves in a cigar factory that I looked at Bertrand and asked him, 'Can you capture all of this in a bottle?'"

The result is dazzling, sexy, and complex like their journey: it opens with sparkling notes of bergamot and unexpected fruits like apple and tamarind, but the scent is a tribute to tobacco in its various forms. Dried leaves, moist flowers, and a fire-lit cigar are represented through Clary Sage and Davana, a nuance of Mango with Dried Fig and Date, and a rough smokiness of Tobacco Absolute, Tar, Cade, and Cedarwood. An ambery accord of secretions and sugars of Cistus and Labdanum, Ambergris, Oakmoss, Vanilla, Cocoa Accord, and Peru Balsam in the heart gives way to a dark, rich, and resinous base. The distinctive scent of Burnt Sugar, Fresh Cloves, and Cardamom are infused with vapors that keep CAFÉ TABAC multifaceted rather than perfectly rounded. Blended at a 20% concentration, created following the old-school style of haute perfumery, including a month-long maceration in France, CAFÉ TABAC expresses a wild sensuality, like a touch of orange atop a cup of espresso, an intense scent with a hint of freshness. Wearing it means maintaining a state of intense emotions that leave an indelible mark on the memories of those around us.
