Golden Rosewood

A symphony of refined and precious burnished woods transforms into a sweetly opulent perfume.

PALISSANDRE D'OR is a new light among timeless perfumes based on precious woods: a smoldering palette of burnt sienna, lacquered red and molten gold.

The idea came from a rosewood tree, also known as Dalbergia sissoo, which historically was the main rosewood species in northern India. But it's another type of rosewood, the "palissandro," which smells of intricate carvings among serene Asian groves, that provides the inspiration. "I can't create overly figurative fragrances," explains perfumer Alberto Morillas. "For me, a perfume is a melody."

His 2015 interpretation is a milky light, shining through wood so smooth it turns to silk. Abstract yet intensely evocative, PALISSANDRE D'OR embodies the quintessential Alberto Morillas style, defined by the maestro in three words: "Fluidity, transparency, and power."

The dazzling olfactory inlay of crystalline ambrette, a natural musk with facets of rose, pear, and iris, illuminates with rich inlays of fresh spices, pink pepper, coriander, and nutmeg. After the intense warmth of cinnamon, the fragrance opens its heart to reveal its secret: a rare extract of Sri Lankan sandalwood. Subtly smoky, rose-tinged, and creamy, it is further enhanced by the milky warmth of copahu balm and a silky patchouli extract. The scent of ambrox, an intriguing fusion of warm, clean bark and sun-kissed skin, embodies its delicate motifs wherever it is sprayed.

Additionally, a bold trio of cedar essences adds structure and texture to the brilliant blend. Clean and invigorating Virginia cedar gives it vigor and pace. The Lapsang Souchong tea facet of Chinese cedar adds subtlety, and Alaskan cedar lends a smoky Russian leather. "It's a 'monochrome' because of its color and density, with a strong signature and very special, bold ingredients," says Morillas. "But it's still very wearable and full of facets that can resonate differently on different skin types."
